After conversations with local decision-makers, I am pleased to announce a plan, in collaboration with councillors at Cheltenham Borough Council, to pledge for local councils to give £500-10000 in funding to BYC, in order to pay for its upkeep. This would keep BYC sustainable and be affordable for local councils, as the funding is both low, and flexible depending on the council. I have produced a petition in support of this motion - to be presented to Cheltenham Borough Council on the 17th June. Please sign to save BYC.

Recently, the British Youth Council was forced to close. This article gives more information about what has happened, what is happening in the short-term, and what should happen in the long-term.

Recently, the British Youth Council (BYC), who oversee Youth Parliament were forced to close due to financial pressure. I am deeply disappointed that the charity was not receiving the appropriate funding necessary to sustain themselves. It is of the utmost importance that government must act quickly, and responsibly, in order to protect the future of the UK Youth Parliament, and ensure that this cannot be allowed to happen again, either by taking it into government hands and making it government funded, or by having an oversight body that can direct funding.
